While it wasn’t ideal for the Lyon County Lyons to play extra basketball on Thursday night at Muhlenberg County ahead of a Friday showdown with Hopkinsville, an overtime victory over the 12-9 Mustangs maintains the momentum of a five-game winning streak and runs the Lyons’ record to 18-5 overall.

Travis Perry had the hot hand early with nine points, and Nick Whalin added four to give the Lyons a 17-15 advantage after the 1st quarter.

Perry and Jackson Shoulders combined for 15 of the Lyons’ 19 points in the 2nd.  Brayden Lovan scored nine for the Mustangs, and Lyon County took a 2-point edge to the locker room at halftime.

Despite seven for Brady Shoulders and five for Jack Reddick in the 3rd, the Lyons were outscored 20-18 to knot the game at 54-54 with a quarter to play.

Nothing could be decided in regulation with the teams combining for only 18 points, and the game went to overtime.

Jackson Shoulders carried the scoring load in overtime with five points, and a pair of 3-pointers was all the points the Mustangs could muster in a 3-point Lyon County victory.

The OT loss is the second straight and third in six outings for the Mustangs.

Jackson Shoulders led all scorers with 22, followed by Perry with 21, and Reddick with 12.

Lovan led Muhlenberg with 20, and Trey Lovell also reached double figures with 13.
