
Just hours after taking down Hopkinsville in an overtime marathon, the Lyon County Lady Lyons were back on the court for a morning tipoff against Daviess County. And, as you might suspect, the battle it took to pick up an overtime win against a regional foe on Friday night appeared to take its toll on the Lady Lyons Saturday morning.
After a tight first quarter, the Lady Panthers took control in the second and ran off from the Lady Lyons, picking up a 65-38 win in Eddyville in the first game of the day in the Akridge Ace Jam. It was a game in which the Lady Panthers never trailed, leading from tip to final horn.
Daviess County scored the first seven points of the game as the Lady Lyons struggled to find their footing early. Lyon would battle back to cut the lead to three at 15-12 by the end of the quarter.
The Lady Lyons would cut the lead to one on three occasions early in the second quarter, then the bottom fell out of the bucket. With Daviess County up 19-18, the Lady Panthers ripped off an 11-0 run to take a 30-18 lead. By halftime, the margin would grow to 40-23.
The Lady Lyons would make a bit of a run to open the second half. Lyon County would cut the lead to 13 at 41-28. Daviess County answered the run and effectively ended the game, by scoring eight straight to push the lead back out to 49-28.
Calista Collins finished the day with 12 points to lead the Lady Lyons. Rose Smith also hit double figures with 10.
Adalyn Ayer topped all scorers in the game with 21 points for the Lady Panthers. Lily Hoagland just missed out on double figures with 9 points for Daviess County.
With the loss, Lyon County falls to 14-12 on the year. The Lady Lyons are set to be back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on Calloway County.
