The Trigg County boys basketball team may want to schedule more games in the middle school gym after manhandling visiting Dayspring Academy, TN 76-27 on Saturday.
The game was played away from Wildcat Gym due to an archery tournament, but the Wildcats looked right at home on their way to their fourth win in five outings.
Trigg’s 27 1st-quarter points eclipsed the Shires’ eventual total for the game, and they led by 25 after eight minutes.
With the Trigg starters looking on from the bench, the teams evenly split 24 points in the 2nd quarter. John-Michael Martin scored 12 in the frame for Dayspring, and Aidan Moore carried the scoring load for the Wildcats with eight points. Trigg took a 39-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Both Luke Washer and Moore had five points for the Wildcats in the 3rd, and they outscored Dayspring by 11 despite 10 points for Martin. Dakota Lockard’s layup with 1:10 left in the frame triggered the running clock at 60-24.
Just as they did in the 1st quarter, the Wildcats held the Shires to only two points in the 4th. Washer and Matthew Reeves each had four points over the last eight minutes to help Trigg to its largest margin of victory this year.
The Wildcats improve to 14-11 overall, with a big matchup at Caldwell County coming up on Monday.
