Hoptown Girls Earn Bounce Back Win at Owensboro

After a tough overtime loss to Lyon County on Friday, the Hopkinsville girls basketball team got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 61-42 road win over Owensboro.

The Lady Tigers win their third in four outings to improve to 11-11 overall.

Kahtahvia Fleming scored four points to get Hoptown off to a good start, and the Lady Tigers led 13-8 after the 1st quarter.

Despite five points from Faith Dansbury in the 2nd, Hopkinsville was outscored 13-11 behind seven for Owensboro’s Chandler Worth.  The Lady Tigers led 24-21 at the halftime break.

The 3rd quarter was decisive for Hoptown, with Shiyah Forte leading the charge with nine points.  The Lady Tigers held the Lady Devils to only three points and stretched the lead to 40-24 to start the 4th.

Forte capped her 17-point performance with eight in the 4th, and Shaterrea Bellamy added four for the Lady Tigers’ highest scoring quarter.  Owensboro’s Alyrica Hughes scored 10 of her 17 points over the final eight minutes, but Hopkinsville was never threatened.

Forte pulled down eight rebounds with 17 points, while Fleming finished with 16 points and six boards.

The Lady Tigers return to the court on Monday for a visit from Christian County.
