Spikes’ 35 Helps Caldwell Avenge Loss to Trigg

There aren’t many players in Kentucky who have been playing better basketball over the last five weeks than Jabrion Spikes.

The Caldwell County senior scored 35 points, brought down nine rebounds, and handed out five assists to lead the Tigers to a 66-40 win over Trigg County Monday at the CAB.

Coming into Monday, Spikes was averaging 29 points and 14 rebounds since Jan. 10 – a span of 14 games. He was shooting 56-percent from the field during that time. He had double-doubles in 12 of his 14 games and the only game where he didn’t score 20 points, he scored 18 and grabbed 20 rebounds.

Spikes scored nine points in three of the four quarters Monday and scored eight in the other.

Caldwell Count never trailed in the contest, breaking a 2-2 tie with five straight points and never looking back.  Trigg trailed 17-12 after one quarter and got as close as 21-18 midway through the second quarter, but Spikes scored five straight points to lift the Tigers to a 26-18 lead. Trigg never got closer than seven points the rest of the game.

Demaurius Thompson scored 10 points and had five rebounds, and Blake Vivrette came off the bench to add seven points.

Caldwell was tenacious on the glass, outrebounding Trigg 31-25. The Tigers had 19 offensive rebounds that led to 18 points while Trigg had four second-chance points.

Caldwell also took care of the basketball with just four turnovers while scoring 28 points off 19 Trigg miscues.

Kendric Adams led the Wildcats with 17 points. Khyran Vaughn and Hunter Reynolds each scored seven points.

Trigg County fell to 2-5 all-time against Caldwell County on Valentine’s Day.

Caldwell County plays at Hopkinsville Tuesday, while Trigg County makes its first-ever trip to Westmoreland, Tennessee.
