Madisonville-North Hopkins senior Camryn LaGrange has been selected the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches 2nd Region Player of the Year.
The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation and the KABC announced their top region players and candidates for Kentucky’s 2022 Mr. and Miss Basketball awards Friday morning.
LaGrange leads the Lady Maroons this season with 15.6 points and 8.2 rebounds a game.
At 21-5, Madisonville’s girls are the No. 1 seed for next week’s 7th District tournament and are rated second in the 2nd Region behind only Henderson County in the KHSAA’s RPI.
LaGrange has totaled 1,679 career points, and would undoubtedly be over 2,000 had she not sat out her entire junior season with a knee injury. She also has 705 career rebounds.
As a sophomore, LaGrange scored 16.2 points a game while helping Madisonville go 29-2 in the 2019-20 season.
A two-sport standout, LaGrange has signed to play college soccer at Western Kentucky University.
LaGrange was voted Player of the Year by the 2nd Region soccer coaches in November. She was also named to the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State First Team.
LaGrange scored 47 goals and handed out 32 assists in helping the Lady Maroons to a 16-6-1 record and a trip to the region championship game.
She finished her career as Madisonville’s all-time leading scorer with 146 goals, again despite missing most of her junior season with the knee injury.
LaGrange is now a candidate for Miss Basketball, with voting underway for that award. The male and female with the most votes will be named Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball during the Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball Awards Ceremony on Sunday, March 20, at the Lexington Griffin Gate Marriott Resort.

The 11th Annual Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball Awards Ceremony serves as a fundraiser for the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation, which has announced Mr. Kentucky Basketball since 1954 and Miss Kentucky Basketball since 1976.
