The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches announced the following senior student-athletes as candidates for Kentucky’s 2022 Mr. and Miss Basketball/KABC Regional Players of the Year:
Two University of Kentucky signees —Amiya Jenkins of Anderson County and Cassidy Rowe of Shelby Valley — were among the nominees for Miss Basketball along with Josie Gilvin of Sacred Heart, the MVP in last year’s state tourney and a Western Kentucky signee.
The biggest name in Kentucky boys’ high school basketball — Reed Shepherd of North Laurel — is only a junior and not eligible for selection. Three regions had co-players of the year and voting for Mr. Basketball seems as wide open as it has been in years.
High school head basketball coaches, selected Kentucky media members and all former Mr. and Miss Kentucky basketball winners are eligible to vote for Mr. and Miss Basketball.
Winner will be named during the Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball Awards Ceremony on March 20 at the Lexington Griffin Gate Marriott Resort. The event is the annual fundraiser for the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation.
