Former Caldwell County standout Shane Burns was the winning pitcher on Saturday as the Murray State Racers routed Butler 18-1 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Burns pitched three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up the victory.
Murray State used an eight-run first inning to grab control of the contest, then added seven runs in the fourth.
Burns took over on the mound in the fifth inning after starter Matt Boynton went the first four innings, allowing just one unearned run.
Burns struck out five in his three innings of work, allowing two base hits and two walks.
Murray State relief pitchers have a combined stat line of 8.2 innings pitched, six hits allowed, 17 strikeouts, and zero earned runs this season.
The Racers host Butler for the final game of the three-game season-opening set on Sunday afternoon.
