Perry’s 3,000th Highlights Lyons’ District Semifinal Win

On a night when Travis Perry reached a historical milestone for Lyon County, it was the bigs who stole the show in the Lyons’ 88-62 win over Livingston Central in the district semi-finals Tuesday.

Perry’s 14th point of the first quarter saw him reach 3,000 for his career. The sophomore guard joins Earlington’s Harry Todd, University Heights Academy’s KyKy Tandy, and Lyon County alum Ty Rogers as the only 2nd Region players to score 3,000 points. He’s also the 37th player to accomplish the feat in state history.

Perry’s quick start helped the Lyons get out to a 29-14 lead over the Cardinals, but it was the play of Jackson Shoulders and Nick Whalen that made the difference. Shoulders scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Whalen added 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Lyons built a 61-29 lead by halftime and led 82-46 heading into the final quarter.

Perry and Shoulders combined to score 23 of Lyon County’s first 29 points as the Lyons hit 25 of 38 first half shots. The Lyons were playing without Brady Shoulders who was injured over the weekend and did not dress.

Perry scored 20 of his team-high 22 points in the first half. Jack Reddick and Gunnar Bingham each scored nine points for the Lyons, who won their 11th straight game over the Cardinals dating back four years.

In his final game as a Cardinal, Max Downey led all scorers with 36 points and had four rebounds and four assists.  Jason Rains added 13 points, and Tyler Calender scored 10 and grabbed seven rebounds.

Lyon County moves into Friday’s championship game where they will play host Crittenden County. The Rockets dispatched of Trigg County 55-54 in the other semifinal.
