Heritage Christian Academy won its super-regional Saturday in Louisville and will be the No. 2 seed in this weekend’s KCAA State Tournament in Nicholasville.
The Warriors put together a solid defensive effort to beat Bethel Christian 47-28 in the championship. Zane Yates hit four 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points to go with eight rebounds.
Heritage lead 12-8 after one quarter and extended its lead to 22-12 by halftime. They limited Bethel to just three points in the third quarter and built its lead to 20 points.
Carlos Robles had 12 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Robles, Yates, and Triston Folz were all named to the all-tournament team.
In the semifinal, Folz had 12 points and six rebounds to pace Heritage to a 53-47 win over Oak Ridge Christian. Heritage trailed by one point after the first quarter but steadily outscored Oak Ridge the rest of the way.
Robles led the Warriors with 14 points and eight assists. Weston Powell added nine points and seven rebounds to help offset seven 3-pointers made by Oak Ridge Christian.
Heritage Christian will begin play in the KCAA State Tournament Friday at West Jessamine High School. They will play the winner of Tuesday’s match-up between Cornerstone and North Hardin. The semifinals and championship are set for Saturday.
