Derrin Boyd and the Georgetown Tigers are the 2022 Mid-South Conference champions.
The former Caldwell County standout had 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks Monday night as third-seeded Georgetown upended No. 1 seed Thomas More 68-59 in the Mid-South Conference championship game in Bowling Green.
Boyd also received the 2022 Mid-South Conference Outstanding Player of the Tournament Award. He averaged 19.7 points per game and five assists in three games in the tourney.
Georgetown had lost to Thomas More twice during the regular season.
The Saints are ranked No. 5 in the nation in the NAIA.
A Boyd three-point play with 2:08 left in the game put Georgetown up 60-57 and the Tigers led the rest of the way. Boyd had a dunk with 11 seconds to go to put the game away for Georgetown.
The Tigers, now 25-7, had already secured an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship by reaching the championship game.
Georgetown advances to the NAIA tournament for the 41st time, and for the 31st year in a row.
