The Lyon County Lyons took advantage of Calloway County late-inning pitching struggles to pick up an 8-5 scrimmage win over the Lakers in a nine inning scrimmage Friday night at Lee S. Jones Park. The Lyons, who played without some key players due to the 2nd Region basketball championship coming up on Saturday, scored five runs in the 7th inning and two more in the 8th inning to rally from a four-run deficit.
Lyon County was able to take advantage of four Calloway County walks, one hit batter, two wild pitches, and two passed balls in scoring the five runs in the bottom of the 7th.
The Lyons then converted on three walks and three more hit batters in the 8th inning to add two more runs to their total.
Lyon County pitchers also had their struggles on the mound. The Lyons gave up 11 walks over the nine innings of the scrimmage. However, Lyon hurlers only gave up two hits to the Lakers.
Lyon County had 10 strikeouts on the night. John Bingham had three, while Austin Spears and Eli Baker struck out two Calloway County batters each.
At the plate, Austin Spears led the attack, finishing 2-3, with two RBIs, and a run scored. John Bingham ended the night going 3-4 at the plate.
Brady Belt, Eli Baker, and Brady Williams had one hit each in the scrimmage.
