After a heartbreaking loss in the 13th District title game last week, the Todd County Central Rebels got more bad news when paired with the red-hot Warren Central Dragons in Thursday’s 4th Region quarterfinal at E.A. Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University.
Warren Central, champions of the 14th District, rode an eleven-game winning streak into the matchup, and the Dragons cruised to a 64-36 win to put an end to the Rebels’ winningest season in years.
Both teams started slow, and the Rebels only trailed 4-2 midway through the 1st quarter. However, Chappelle Whitney scored seven points for the Dragons, and they led 13-6 after the opening frame.
Todd Central failed to reach double figures again in the 2nd, and Warren Central continued to add to the margin. Omari Glover’s steal and dunk put the Dragons up by 17, and they took a 31-13 advantage into the halftime break.
Whitney continued to pour it on in the 3rd with nine more points on the way to a game-high 20. Preston Moore, Jamison Glass, and Mareke Johnson each scored four for the Rebels, but they trailed 53-26 with a quarter to play.
Warren Central cruised through the 4th, outscoring Todd Central 11-10 to advance to Monday’s semifinal against Barren County. In the early game on Thursday, the Trojans were 54-43 winners over Cumberland County.
Whitney led three Dragons in double figures, followed by Glover with 13 and Jaiden Lawrence with 12. Those three did the job on the boards as well, combining for 18 rebounds.
Glass was the lone Rebel in double figures with 10. Anthony Johnson led Todd Central with four rebounds.
Warren Central scored 19 points off turnovers and outscored the Rebels 21-5 on 2nd-chance points.
