Despite cold and windy conditions, the Caldwell County tennis team got the spring sports season underway on Monday.

Paducah St. Mary brought only its girls team to Princeton to take on the Lady Tigers at the CCHS tennis courts.

The Lady Vikings took five of the seven matches, although all seven were competitive and the Lady Tigers held leads in many of them before St. Mary came back to win.

Emma Peake was Caldwell’s only singles winner, defeating Kate Leutz 8-6.

In other singles play, Josie Shaffer lost to Ava Campbell 8-6, Rachel McClung fell to Mason Clements 8-6, Keegan Miller was defeated by Claire Haas 8-2 and Avery Ritchey was edged by Audrey Sims 8-4.

In doubles, Caldwell’s McClung and Miller picked up an 8-4 victory over Campbell and Clements, but the Lady Tigers’ Ritchey and Peake were nipped by Haas and Sims 9-8 – 6-2 in the tiebreaker.

Caldwell’s tennis teams are scheduled to go to Union County on Thursday.
