Mayfield scored four unearned runs in the top of the first inning and went on to defeat Lyon County 4-2 in scrimmage baseball action Thursday night in Eddyville.
Lyon pitching was solid, but the Lyons could not overcome the early deficit.
Lyon played the game without at least three basketball players who are preparing for Lyon’s trip to the KHSAA state tournament next week.
The Lyons will begin the baseball regular season on Tuesday with a trip to 5th District rival Crittenden County.
