It was a pretty impressive way to start the season for the Christian County Colonels. Christian County rang up 22 runs in the bottom of the first inning as they cruised to a 23-0 three inning win over the Panthers.

The game was sort of a capper to a tough day for Russellville, as school officials had announced not long before game time that the Panthers’ head coach had stepped down on the opening day of the season effective immediately.

After starting pitcher Lane Gamble got the Panthers to go down on just one hit in the top half of the first, the long, long bottom half of the inning got underway.

With one out and a runner on third in the bottom half of the inning, Christian County took advantage of four walks, a double, and a single to take a 4-0 lead. Russellville would get the second out on a play at the plate and it seemed like the tide would be stemmed. But it was not to be.

The Colonels would score 18 runs with two outs to rip the game apart. Christian County would use big hits, hit batters, walks, and two dropped third strikes to put together the massive inning. During the landslide, the biggest hits were Josh Snorton blasting a three-run homer and Elijah Underhill cracking a two-run double as the Colonels ran a trench around the basepaths.

Russellville got a single, but nothing else in the top of the second. The Colonels would add one more run in the bottom of the inning when Logan Moore connected for an RBI single.

Preston Phan would then strike out the side in the top of the third to close out the game.

Josh Snorton had a monster game going 3-3 with a home run and 6 RBIs. Carter Sholar had two hits and 3 RBIs, as did Preston Phan. Jacob Jenkins added two hits and two RBIs for Christian County.

All totaled, ten Christian County batters had at least one of the Colonels 15 hits in the game, seven of those were doubles. Seven different players drove in a run for Christian County.

On the mound, starter Lane Gamble pitched two innings, giving up no runs on two hits, and striking out one, while walking none.

Christian County gets back to action Tuesday as they travel to Trigg County.
