Taylor Follis has one simple goal in his first year as Trigg County High School baseball coach. That’s getting the Wildcats back to the region tournament — a place they haven’t been in four years.

The former McCracken County High School assistant takes over for Tyler Magan, who coached two seasons. Since winning five out of six district titles, the Wildcats have won just three district games total and lost in the district semifinals in both 2019 and 2021.

Follis is hoping to bring a new philosophy to the baseball program that begins with hard work and discipline. He returns all-district pitcher Isaac Peca who will anchor an improved pitching staff. Peca was just 3-4 last year but had a 3.15 ERA and struck out 57 in 40 innings. He also played several positions in the field and hit .267.

Junior Matthew Leeper returns to the Trigg County program after spending time at University Heights Academy. Follis plans to use Leeper at the top of the lineup.

If there’s an area that needs major improvement, it’s the Wildcat defense. Trigg County pitchers gave up 62 unearned runs last year as a result of the shaky defense.

Senior Tyler Ahart returns after hitting .436 with 22 runs knocked in. Trevor Terrell (.365) and Hunter Reynolds (.302) also return to the Wildcat lineup.

Trigg County opens its 2022 season Tuesday at Christian County, which thumped Russellville 23-0 in its season opener Monday.

Coach Follis previews his team in this YSE Interview.
