Short-Handed Lyons Top Crittenden 5-1

With four seniors attending to more pressing matters at the upcoming KHSAA state basketball tournament, the Lyon County Lyons turned to a group of youngsters to help them to a 5-1 road win over Crittenden County.

The Lyons start 5th-District play with a win and have three days off before traveling to Murray High on Saturday.

Crittenden County slips to 0-2 and will host Dawson Springs on Thursday.

With the Lyons leading by a run in the 3rd, freshman Austin Spears added a run with an RBI double before Brody Williams came home on a wild pitch for a 3-0 advantage.

Aiden Waters drove in a run with a double in the 4th and Williams rounded out the Lyons’ scoring with an RBI triple in the 5th.

Freshman Eli Baker got the win with five innings of work on the mound, allowing no runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Another freshman, John Bingham, pitched the 6th and 7th, yielding a single unearned run with a walk and a strikeout.

Maddox Carlson took the loss for the Rockets, lasting four frames and allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Baker, Waters, and Turner Hurst each had two hits for the Lyons.

Logan Bailey was 4 for 4 at the plate for Crittenden.
