Lyon County Comes From Behind to Get Past Murray 7-5

With Lyon County’s basketball season ending Friday night, the defending 2nd Region baseball champions gained some valuable roster additions for their Saturday evening baseball trip to take on the Murray Tigers. The Lyons then came up with a 7th inning rally to come from behind to take down the Tigers 7-5.

Gunnar Bingham, who was on the court at Rupp Arena Friday night, got a double in the first inning and then scored on an RBI single from Jackson Shoulders, who was also in Lexington Friday night, to give Lyon County a 1-0 lead.

After a double and a walk to lead off the bottom half of the first, Carson Tucker doubled to put Murray up 2-1.

Lyon County got RBI singles from John Bingham and Turner Hurst in the top of the 3rd to retake the lead at 3-2. Austin Spears would add an RBI single of his own in the 4th to extend the lead to 4-2.

Murray would tally single runs in the bottom of the 4th, 5th, and 6th to move back into the lead at 5-4.

With one out in the top of the 7th, the Lyons made their move. John Bingham connected for a single. Turner Hurst would then single to give the Lyons runners on the corners. Peyton Carney then cleared the bases with a triple to put Lyon up 6-5. Aiden Waters drove in an insurance run with an RBI single to send it to the bottom of the 7th with the Lyons up 7-5.

Jackson Shoulders took to the mound for the bottom of the 7th and closed the game out by shutting down the Tigers, striking out the final two batters of the game.

Gunnar Bingham was 2-3 for the Lyons with a pair of doubles. Jackson Shoulders was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. John Bingham ended up 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Austin Spears and Turner Hurst added two hits each.

The Lyons move to 2-0 on the season and are set to get back to action Monday when they host Marshall County.
