Last season, the Christian County Colonels did not pick up their 5th win until the middle of May. You could say 2022 has started off a bit differently. Josh Snorton’s two-run homer in the top of the 9th inning carried the Christian County Colonels to a 5-3 win over Marshall County. Additionally, Elijah Underhill had a stellar day on the mound finishing with 21 strikeouts.

The win was the 5th in a row for the Colonels, who opened the 2021 season in the opposite direction with five straight losses.

The Colonels took the lead first in the game with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Christian County used a passed ball and a pair of Marshall County errors to get to the lead.

The Marshals responded in the bottom of the fourth. Chase Hayden drove in two runs with a double and then scored on a wild pitch to put Marshall County up 3-2.

Brylle Javier led off the top of the 6th with a double for Christian County. Javier would then score the game-tying run on a base hit by Hayden Hunt.

The Colonels would threaten in the top of the 8th when Brylle Javier was hit by a pitch and Jacob Jenkins walked. Marshall County was able to find a way out of the inning without any damage being done, so the game played on.

In the ninth, it looked as if the Colonels would go quickly following a pair of strikeouts. But then, Elijah Underhill doubled to center, setting the stage for Snorton’s game-winning blast.

Snorton finished 2-5 with the home run and two RBIs. Hayden Hunt was 1-4 with an RBI. Brylle Javier ended up 2-4 with a double and a run scored.

On the mound, Elijah Underhill started the day, going 7 1/3-innings, giving up three runs, none of them earned. He simply overpowered most of the Marshall County batters, finishing with 21 strikeouts and walking only one.

How dominant was Underhill? He struck out the side in order in the second and third, and more than struck out the side in order in the fifth. In the 5th inning, Underhill struck out FIVE batters, with two of the batters reaching due to a dropped third strike.

Christian County gets back to action Monday when they host Fort Campbell.
