More Teams Announced for 2022 Best of the West

Officials have announced several more teams that will be participating in this summer’s Best of the West 7-on-7, which is coming up in July. Three teams were announced Monday with more announced Tuesday and Wednesday.

The latest teams announced for this year’s event were Trigg County, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Clarksville, Daviess County, and Logan County.

Trigg County finished the 2021 season at 5-7, falling to Paducah Tilghman in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs. The Wildcats are slated to return top receiver Jhaden Vaughn, who caught 22 passes for 659 yards and seven touchdowns. The Wildcats are set to have four other returning receivers who caught at least 10 passes during the season.

The Daviess County Panthers wrapped up last season at 11-2, losing to St. Xavier in the third round of the Class 6A playoffs. The Panthers were a “pass happy” offense in 2021, throwing for more than 4,000 yards and 48 touchdowns. Their top returning receiver is Decker Renfrow, who caught 60 passes for 1,064 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Madisonville-North Hopkins wrapped up 2021 with a record of 3-8, losing to Logan County in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Maroons top receiver last season was Quintin Rodgers, who caught 13 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns. Madisonville had four receivers catch at least 13 passes last season.

Logan County ended 2021 with a record of 10-5. The Cougars got all the way to the Class 4A semifinals before they fell to eventual state champion Boyle County. As a sophomore last season, quarterback Davin Yates was 116-187-9 through the air for 1,319 yards and 16 touchdowns. Zane Batten caught 34 passes for 332 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Clarksville High School was 7-5 last season, falling to Beech in the second round of the Tennessee football playoffs.

This year’s Best of the West 7-on-7 is set for July 15 and 16.
