Lady Colonels Drop Games to Male and Greenwood

It was a tough trip but the Christian County Lady Colonels gained some valuable early-season experience Saturday. The Lady Colonels traveled to Male for games against the Lady Bulldogs and the Greenwood Lady Gators.

Greenwood handled the Lady Colonels in the opener 14-4. In the second game of the day, Male got a two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to claim a hard-fought 7-6 win over Christian County.

The opener saw Greenwood light up the scoreboard for six runs in the first inning. The Lady Gators took advantage of a pair of walks and a pair of Christian County errors in the inning.

The Lady Colonels battled back with a run in the second and three more in the third to cut the lead to 6-4.

Greenwood answered quickly with four runs in the bottom of the inning to essentially close out the win. The big shot was a three-run homer from Josi Morrison. The Lady Gators would score a run in the 5th and then end the game with three runs in the bottom of the 6th.

Allie Houchens had a big game at the plate for the Lady Colonels going 3-3 with an RBI. Avery Adcock, Gracie Harned, and LaiLai McGregor had one hit each.

The second game of the day saw Louisville Male come back from an early 6-4 deficit to get the walk-off win.

Christian County used doubles from Riley Hancock, Avery Adcock, and LaiLai McGregor to take a 2-0 lead just half an inning into the game.

Male responded with four runs in the bottom of the opening inning. The biggest hit of the inning was a three-run home run from Lilly Davis.

Christian County broke out their “doubles” bats again in the top of the second. Kaleigh Shaw, Chloe Craft, and Riley Hancock all doubled as Christian County put up a four spot to take the lead back at 6-4.

Male got a home run from Jacklyn Zuege in the third to make it 6-5, and then tied the game in the fourth on an RBI double from Jadyn Thompson.

The game stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh. Male got a one-out single and walk, and then loaded the bases thanks to a Christian County error with two outs. Elizabeth Lampe then singled to send everybody home.

Riley Hancock and Kaleigh Shaw had two hits each for the Lady Colonels. Chloe Craft, Avery Adcock, and LaiLai McGregor added one hit each.

Riley Hancock went the distance for Christian County in the circle, giving up 7 runs, six of them earned, on 11 hits, striking out two and walking two.

Christian County goes to 5-2 on the year. The Lady Colonels are set to get back to action Tuesday on the road at Webster County.
