Caldwell County’s girls rallied from a huge deficit for the second straight game, defeating Crittenden County 13-10 Monday in softball action at the Ratliff Park Complex in Princeton.
The Lady Tigers trailed 9-3 in the fifth inning, but scored four times in the bottom of the fifth and six times in the sixth to come back and win.
On Friday, Caldwell fell behind Livingston Central 11-1 before storming back to win 16-15 — scoring five times in the bottom of the seventh to steal that victory.
On Monday, the sixth inning was the big inning.
Brylee Butts tripled home a run to pull the Lady Tigers within 9-8. Butts then scored on an infield single by Harper Holeman to tie the game at 9-9.
The score was not tied for long. Alicia Stanley jumped all over the first pitch she saw, lining the ball over the centerfield fence for a two-run homer. That put Caldwell in front 11-9.
But the Lady Tigers weren’t done.
A one-one walk by Presley McKinney was followed by another home run to center, this time by Adley Lewis. That gave the Lady Tigers some cushion at 13-9.
Crittenden (4-3) scored once in the top of the seventh before Caldwell finished off the win.
Harper Holeman, Stanley and Lewis each homered and went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in for the Lady Tigers.
Holeman had a two-run shot in the first inning as Caldwell grabbed an early 3-0 lead.
The Lady Rockets responded with six runs in the top of the second to go in front.
Three more runs in the fifth gave the visitors their 9-3 advantage.
Butts was 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. A.J. Hollowell was 3-for-5 and scored three times.
Illysa Stallins pitched all seven innings for the Lady Tigers, allowing four eaned runs on nine hits. She struck out three and did not give up a walk.
It was the fourth straight win for Caldwell, which is now 5-2.
For Crittenden, Andrea Federico, Aubre Conyer and Anna Boone each went 2-for-4. Conyer had two doubles while Federico doubled once and drove in two.
The Lady Tiger softball team has an important home date Tuesday, hosting 7th District rival Madisonville-North Hopkins at Lady Tiger Field. Madisonville is 4-0 this season.
Caldwell ended a 30-game losing streak to the Lady Maroons during the regular-season last year, but Madisonville beat the Lady Tigers 2-1 in eight innings in the district championship game.
