A seven-run fourth inning carried the Caldwell County Tiger baseball team to a 13-3 win over Dawson Springs in 7th District action Tuesday at the VFW Ballpark.

Caldwell (4-3 overall, 1-0 district) added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game early on the 10-run mercy rule.

The Panthers (0-6, 0-1) jumped on Caldwell for three runs in the top of the first inning. But the Tigers countered with three in the home half of the first to tie things.

With the game still knotted 3-3 in the fourth inning, Carter Whittington singled to center to drive in two runs and give the Tigers the lead for good. By the end of the inning, Caldwell led 10-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brady Holeman doubled home two runs as Caldwell scored three times to end the contest.

Whittington finished the game 3-for-4 to lead the Tiger offense. Deontaye Walls, Gabe Dyer and Luke Parker each had two hits.

Dawson had just four base hits — all coming in the first inning.

Ben Goodaker (2-0) was the winning pitcher, going the final five innings without allowing a base hit. He struck out nine and did not surrender a walk.

Goodaker has now fanned 26 in 18 innings this season and owns a 1.17 earned run average.

The Tigers have won 35 of their last 36 matchups with Dawson Springs. Caldwell leads the all-time series 77-9.

The Tigers will go to Dawson Springs on Thursday.
