It was a plentiful night at the plate for the University Heights Academy baseball team, which got production up and down its lineup Monday during a 16-6 thumping of host Union County. The five-inning victory helped the Blazers end a mini two-game slide and produced the second-most runs in a game this season. UHA pounded 13 hits, including three doubles, and used a bookend performance — five runs in the first inning and nine more in the fifth — to end the contest early via mercy rule.

Eight of the nine Blazers in the lineup registered hits. Eston Glover was one of five wearing green and gold to have a pair of hits in the decisive win. Glover went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base. He, Jaiden Miles, Ian Tyler, Ty Hunt, and Nic Luckey, all of whom had multi-hit games, combined to score nine runs and drive in 10 runs in Morganfield.

Leadoff hitter Ryan Luckey went 1-for-2, walked twice, scored a game-high three runs, and had an RBI to set the tone. Tyler also had a strong start on the mound, striking out five in just two innings of work. Jackson Flynn (2-0) walked six and gave up four runs in two innings, but secured the win. Bryson Turner worked a perfect fifth inning and struck out two in relief.

The host Braves gave up five runs in the first inning, as Beau Hopper (1-2) was touched up for five hits and seven runs in two innings of action. UCHS (4-4) was led in defeat by Waylon Wheatley, who went 1-for-3 with a run and RBI. Union County had five hits — all singles — and committed three errors.

University Heights (5-3) is now 4-1 against 2nd Region competition this season and will take on another regional foe March 31 when the Blazers welcome Crittenden County (2-4) to Hopkinsville.
