Andres Garcia-Ortiz allowed just one hit, struck out six, and helped deal the Fort Campbell High School baseball team its fifth straight loss Thursday, as West Creek soundly defeated the Falcons 15-0 in three innings in Clarksville, Tennessee.
It’s the third time FCHS has been shut out in eight games. Sophomore Robert Dennis was responsible for Fort Campbell’s lone hit — a lead-off single in the top of the third. Trailing by 15 runs, the Falcons loaded the bases in the third but Garcia-Ortiz ended the threat and the game, via mercy rule, by getting Tyler Hansen to ground out to shortstop.
The host Coyotes (9-1) struck early and often, beginning when Braden Canaan walked, stole second, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on Colton’s Lovelace’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. WCHS proceeded to score three more runs in their first at-bat and then tacked on nine more in the second to assume complete control.
After forcing the Falcons (1-7) to leave the bases stranded in the third, the Coyotes drew a walk and delivered three consecutive singles, including RBI hits by Jayden Mosby and Donte Castro — to end the night early.
Fort Campbell’s Angel Garcia (0-3) gave up seven hits, seven walks and 13 runs (eight earned) in 1 2/3 innings. Dennis surrendered the final two runs in the other 1/3 inning in relief. Offensively, Aiden Blaszkowski (walk) and Colton Ramos (HBP) were the other two base runners for the Falcons.
