The Christian County Colonels had to work a little bit harder Friday night but did keep their winning streak alive to begin the 2022 baseball season. The Colonels moved to 11-0 on the year as they pulled away late to defeat University Heights 5-0.

The win was the second straight shutout for the Colonels’ pitching staff and extended their scoreless streak to 17 innings. The last run the Colonels allowed was in the first inning of last Saturday’s 11-1 win over Calloway County.

Aiden Lewis went the distance Friday night for Christian County, giving up 4 hits while striking out seven and walking just two.

For much of the game, Lewis and UHA hurler Ian Tyler were locked up in a tight pitcher’s duel. Through the first five innings, Tyler had limited the Colonels to just one run on three hits. For the night, Tyler was charged with four runs on four hits.

That run came in the top of the 4th after Elijah Underhill singled, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and then scored on a base hit from Josh Snorton.

The game would stay 1-0 until the top of the sixth. After a pair of walks and a single by Brylle Javier loaded the bases, Jacob Jenkins connected for a two-run single to move the lead out to 3-0. The Colonels then added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run single from Preston Phan.

Brylle Javier led Christian County, going 2-4 in the game. Jacob Jenkins was 1-2 with a pair of RBIs. Preston Phan finished 1-3 with two RBIs. Elijah Underhill was 1-3 with two runs scored.

J.T. Dearmond was 2-3 for the Blazers. Jackson Flynn and Nic Luckey added one hit each for UHA.

The Colonels now get ready for a pair of games Saturday against Union County and Warren East.

UHA falls to 5-5. The Blazers are back in action Monday when they host Hickman County.
