A six-run 4th inning powered visiting Union County past Trigg County in Friday’s meeting in the 2A Section 1 tournament, handing the Lady Wildcats a fourth loss in five outings.

Trigg County slips to 5-4 with an eleven-day break before Marshall County visits on April 12.

Union County broke through in the top of the 2nd, with four consecutive singles leading to three runs.  Trigg starting pitcher Avery Wade limited the damage, coaxing three-straight outs with a runner in scoring position.

The Lady Wildcats climbed back into it with a pair of runs in their half of the 2nd inning.  EmmaLee Futrell crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and MaKenna Hendricks singled to right to bring home Lillie Cortner.

But that would be all the offense Trigg could muster, and a big 4th inning put the game away for the Lady Braves.  Sydney Thomas, Bryleigh Walsh, Peyton Jenkins, and Leah Hunley each had RBI singles in the frame.

Peyton Jenkins got the win in the circle, holding the Lady Wildcats to two runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.  Cadence Coker held Trigg scoreless over the final two innings with a walk and three strikeouts.

Wade took the loss, allowing ten earned runs on 11 hits with five walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Hunley was 3/3 with two RBI, Ashlynn Hargrove drove in two, and Thomas had a pair of hits and four RBI, including a two-run home run over the left-field fence in the top of the 5th.

Union County hits the road on Saturday to play Harrisburg and Pope County, IL.
