Less than 24 hours after suffering their first loss of the season, the Lyon County Lyons rebounded with a solid road win Saturday afternoon. Brady Belt’s two-out triple in the top of the seventh inning drove in the winning runs as the Lyons took down the Henderson County Colonels 5-3.

Belt’s game-winning hit came after Jackson Shoulders opened the inning with a walk and John Bingham reached base with a one-out single.

Bingham then got the Colonels to go down quietly in the bottom of the 7th to close out the win.

The Lyons came out firing in the top of the first inning. After Gunnar Bingham walked, Brody Williams drove one over the fence in center field to give Lyon County the 2-0 lead. Jackson Shoulders then was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Henderson error to make it 3-0 before the Colonels had a chance to come to the plate.

Henderson County cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning, taking advantage of a Lyon County error. The Colonels would add two more runs in the bottom of the third, one on a steal of home, the other on a wild pitch, to tie the game at 3-3.

From there it was a battle of the pitchers. Lyon County starter Corey Cissell would go five innings, giving up the three runs, two of them earned, on just one Henderson hit, while striking out nine and walking two. John Bingham threw the final two innings, giving up no hits and striking out one.

Henderson County pitcher Brennan Cates entered the game in the second inning and limited the Lyons to just three hits from the second through the 6th inning.

John Bingham ended up going 2-3 for the Lyons. Brody Williams was 1-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Brady Belt was 1-4 with the game-winning two-run triple.

The Lyons improve to 8-1 and head to Clarksville next week to play in the Donnie Everett Classic.
