Christian County’s Gracie Harned was pretty doggone close to being perfect Saturday afternoon in the Lady Colonels matchup against Massac County. In fact, for the first six innings, the Christian County sophomore was in fact perfect.
Harned pitched 6 1/3-innings of a perfect game to help lead the Lady Colonels to a 9-1 win over the Lady Patriots in a game played at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville. Massac County did not reach base until getting a one-out walk in the top of the 7th. The perfect game ending would be followed by the end of the no-hitter and the shutout when the Lady Patriots scored on a double on the very next at-bat.
That, however, would be the end of the rally as Massac County hit into a double play to end the game.
The Lady Colonels scored in each of their first four at-bats, plating three runs in the first, three more in the second, one in the third, and one in the fourth as they took an 8-0 lead.
Avery Adcock had an RBI single and Karlee Crick a two-run homer in the first inning to get things started. Pickle Winkler hit a one-run single in the second, followed later in the inning by a two-run hit from Avery Adcock.
Christian County used a sac bunt in the third and a sac fly in the fourth to extend the lead.
The Lady Colonels added an insurance run on an RBI single from Riley Hancock in the bottom of the 6th.
The top of the order for Christian County wreaked all kinds of havoc in the game. Pickle Winkler was 3-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored. Riley Hancock finished 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Avery Adcock was 2-3 with 4 RBIs and a run scored. Karlee Crick was 1-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs.
Gracie Harned went the distance in the circle, giving up one run, on one hit, striking out five, while walking only one.
