
Christian County ran its season-opening winning streak to 12 games before suffering its first setback.
Union County scored five times in the top of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and held on for a 7-4 win over the Colonels Saturday in Hopkinsville.
Christian had rallied earlier in the day to nip Warren East 3-2, but couldn’t make a 2-1 lead through four innings stand up against Union.
The Braves scored their seven runs on just four base hits, but were given six walks in the contest. The Colonels also committed five errors in the setback.
Union’s big inning included four walks, two hit batters and two errors.
Cannon Sheffer was the winning pitcher for the Braves, who are now 5-5. He allowed two unearned runs on three base hits while striking out two and walking three in six innings.
Preston Phan was 2-for-3 at the plate for Christian while Brylie Javier had a two-run double for the Colonels.
Earlier, Christian trailed Warren East 2-1 but scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull out the 3-2 triumph.
Jacob Jenkins doubled to center to drive in the go-ahead run.
Javier was 3-for-4 in that game while Elijah Underhill and Josh Snorton each went 2-for-4. Underhill had a solo home run leading off the bottom of the first inning.
Underhill also went the distance on the mound for the Colonels. He gave up just two earned runs on five base hits while striking out nine and walking two.
Christian is now off until Thursday when it plays at Clarksville Northeast.
