A 10-run seventh inning highlighted Union County’s win at University Heights Academy on Thursday.
The visiting Braves (7-5) never trailed after jumping out to a 4-0 lead through three innings.
However, UHA was within 4-2 going to the seventh before the Union offense erupted.
The Braves sent 15 men to the plate and took advantage of seven walks in the frame. Hunter Hopper’s two-run single to center was the big hit of the inning.
Down 14-2, University Heights tried to rally with a big inning of its own in the bottom of the seventh. The Blazers sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six times. UHA had the bases loaded when a fly out to center finally ended the contest.
Isaac Phillips was 3-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs for Union while Hopper went 2-for-5 and knocked in three. Riley Cullen finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Starter Brady Greenwell picked up the win on the mound for Union, allowing just one earned run on one base hit through the first four innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
For UHA, Ian Tyler was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Jackson Flynn went 2-for-4 and knocked in two.
Tyler, the first of four Blazer pitchers, suffered the loss. He allowed four earned runs on nine hits in four innings.
