Connor Dill already had his name etched in the University Heights Academy track and field record books. After Saturday, he has some company.

Dill set new school records in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdle events at Saturday’s Hopkinsville Track and Field Classic at the Stadium of Champions.

Freshman Griffin McCoy also added his name to the record book, shattering the school best in the triple jump. McCoy’s jump of 39-feet, 4-inches was more than three feet ahead of second-place Jarae Leavell of Christian County. He also bettered Derrick Quarles’ school record of 37-04.

Dill, who clipped the final hurdle in his last 110-meter race two weeks ago at Marshall County, recovered in fine fashion Saturday with a time of 15.27 seconds – beating his own school record of 15.69 seconds.

He needed a school-record performance to win the 300-meter hurdles. His time of 40.03 seconds edged Muhlenberg County’s Carson Groves by .15 seconds and set a new UHA school record by .09 seconds.

Sam Cotthoff claimed first-place finishes in the shot put and discus throw Saturday at the Hoptown Classic.

The school records, along with multiple wins by Cole Glover in the distance events and Sam Cotthoff in the throws, helped the Blazers finish in second place with 82 points.  Defending Class 1A region champs Fort Campbell took first place with 109 points.
