The Christian County Lady Colonels made sure their trip to Morgantown Saturday was a productive one. After originally being scheduled to take part in a weekend event, the trip ended up being a doubleheader against the host Lady Bears. Regardless, the Lady Colonels came away with a pair of wins, rolling past Butler County 12-0 in the opener, and then having to fight their way through to a 3-1 in the second game of the day.
In the opener, the Lady Colonels used the “team” approach to pick up the twelve-run win. Eight different Lady Colonels had a hit and eight different Lady Colonels drove in a run as Christian County rolled to the win.
Riley Hancock, Karlee Crick, LaiLai McGregor, and Anna Hodge had two hits each. Hancock, Crick, and Gracie Harned finished the game with two RBIs each. Harned led off the top of the seventh with a home run to center field.
In the circle, Riley Hancock pitched all seven innings, giving up no runs on five hits, striking out six while walking three.
The second game was a bit tougher for the Lady Colonels.
But, it was another strong pitching performance that led Christian County to the win. Gracie Harned pitched seven strong innings as the Lady Colonels picked up the 3-1 win.
Harned gave up just the one run, and it was unearned, on three hits, striking out four while walking three.
Christian County would get all the runs it needed in the top of the second. Brittan Joiner scored the first run of the game on a ground out from Kaleigh Shaw to put the Lady Colonels up 1-0. Chloe Craft then doubled to right to extend the lead to 2-0.
A walk, two steals, and a throwing error led to Butler County’s only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Christian County would get the run back in the top of the 6th on an RBI single from Chloe Craft to wrap up the scoring.
Gracie Harned then got Butler County to go quietly in the sixth and seventh to close out the game.
Chloe Craft led the way for the Lady Colonels, going 2-3 with two RBIs. Pickle Winkler, Riley Hancock, Avery Adcock, Karlee Crick, and Gracie Harned had one hit each for the Lady Colonels.
With the two wins, Christian County goes to 10-3 on the season. The Lady Colonels are scheduled to hit the road Monday for a game with Union County.
