Clarksville Walks Off 5-4 Win Against Lyon County

It was a tough way to lose one for the Lyon County Lyons Saturday afternoon in the Donny Everett Classic at Clarksville High School. The host Wildcats rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to come from behind and upend the Lyons 5-4.

The Lyons entered the final half-inning holding a 4-3 lead, needing just three outs to pick up their fourth straight win since a loss to Caldwell County.

The Wildcats got a single off Lyon hurler Eli Baker as the inning got underway. An infield error by Lyon County put runners on first and second with no outs. Another single put the Lyons’ backs against the wall with Clarksville having the bases loaded and nobody out.

A walk to Kirk Weatherford forced in the tying run. Laine Welch then singled to drive in the walk-off winning run for the Wildcats.

Clarksville had taken an early 2-0 lead in the 4th inning when the Wildcats strung together three hits.

Lyon County came back in the top of the fifth. After a single from Gunnar Bingham, Brody Williams hit a two-run shot over the left field fence to even the game at 2-2. Jackson Shoulders immediately followed that with a home run of his own to center field to put the Lyons up 3-2.

Clarksville tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Brody Lanham.

In the top of the 6th, Turner Hurst led off the inning with a double. He advanced to third on a sacrifice from John Bingham and then scored on a sac fly off the bat of Eli Baker.

Brody Williams was 2-4 for the Lyons with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. Jackson Shoulders ended up 2-2 with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Turner Hurst was 2-3 with two doubles and a run scored.

Corey Cissell got the start on the mound for Lyon County. He went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out six while walking three. John Bingham pitched two innings in relief, giving up one run on four hits, striking out two, and walking one.

The Lyons go 2-1 in the Donny Everett Classic and drop to 10-2 with the loss. Lyon County will travel to Fort Campbell Monday to take on the Falcons in the quarterfinal round of the 2nd Region All A Classic.
