Lyon County splits two games in the Spring Break Bash at Murray in softball action on Saturday.

The Lady Lyons got the day started off with an 8-6 win over the host Murray Lady Tigers, but then suffered a 9-1 setback to Russellville to finish the day.

Against Murray, Calista Collins homered to left leading off the top of the first inning.

The Lady Lyons would go on to score four runs in the opening frame.

But Murray (3-6) would battle back to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the first and then three more in the bottom of the third.

With games on a 75-minute time limit, the teams went to the fifth inning still knotted 4-4.

However, Lyon loaded the bases in the top of the inning with no outs. A pair of strikeouts threatened to short circuit the frame, but Lauren Davis was then hit by a pitch with a 2-2 count to force in a run and put Lyon up 5-4.

Emma West then provided the Lady Lyons some insurance, driving a pitch to the gap in left-center and driving in three runs to extend Lyon’s lead to 8-4.

That hit proved key in the bottom of the inning when Murray scored twice and loaded the bases — all with two outs.

But Lilly Perry coaxed a groundout to first to end the game and finish off the 8-6 triumph.

West finished 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs. Collins was 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and two runs scored.

Perry tossed all five innings. She allowed four earned runs on eight base hits while striking out three and walking one.

Sydney Wyatt was 3-for-3 for Murray. Aiden Farr was 2-for-3.

Lyon then jumped out to a 1-0 lead in its next game against Russellville.

Collins walked to start the frame. She took second on a passed ball and moved to third on a wild pitch. Collins then scored on a bunt by Hadlie Butler to give the Lady Lyons the early advantage.

But Russellville broke through for a big frame in the bottom of the second. The Lady Panthers (9-2) sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight times to seize control of the contest.

Brinley Mason singled home two runs to put Russellville up 3-1 and the Lady Panthers never trailed after that.

Russellville added another run in the third to make it 9-1 and the Lady Lyons could never recover.

A’miyah Collier pitched all five innings for Russellville, allowing just one run on four base hits. She struck out four and walked two.

Collier was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and an RBI. Reese Croslin was also 2-for-3 and drove in a run.

Lyon was originally scheduled to play three games in the Murray event, but Friday’s action was wiped out by cold weather and wet field conditions.

The Lady Lyons are now 4-6. They will go on the road on Monday to play a first round game in the 2nd Region All A Classic. Lyon visits Fort Campbell.

The Lady Lyons are not only the defending regional champions, but won the state All A Classic title last season.
