A pair of sixth-place finishes for Princeton native Jake Lewis in his first racing action of the season over the weekend on the MotoAmerica schedule.

Lewis was the 2021 MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Champion and also won the Superbike Cup competition for Stock 1000 motorcycles.

This year, Lewis leaves Stock 1000 to return to the Superbike class aboard the Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R1000R.

He was in action at the MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike event at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, over the weekend.

Lewis took sixth in Race 1 on Saturday, just ahead of new teammate Richie Escalante.

“It’s great to get a race under our belt,” Lewis said afterward. “Obviously, I wanted to start the season a little bit better. It would have been nice to end up in that fourth position, but we struggled after mid-distance with a few little issues that I tried to ride around.

“Still, it’s nice to get a full race in to learn and build as a team with the bike. We’ll try to make some changes for the second race and do better tomorrow.”

In Race 2 on Sunday, Lewis again placed sixth, this time one spot behind Escalante.

“We picked up another sixth, but we made a little bit of progress in that race,” said Lewis. “I got a decent start and then got into a rhythm and kept charging and charging. When Richie came by, I had run out of tire a little bit and didn’t have anything for him.”

“Overall, it was a better day and a better race. We will continue to try some things and hopefully progress for the next round.”

Next up on the schedule is Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, April 22-24.
