After three years at Georgetown College, former Caldwell County standout Derrin Boyd is on the move.
The 6-foot-4 guard announced on social media Thursday morning that he will leave the Georgetown basketball program. Thanks to the extra COVID year, Boyd will still have three years of eligibility at his next stop.
“After many long talks and deep consideration, I have decided to transfer from Georgetown College…” Boyd wrote.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank Coach Briggs, Coach Haddix and the rest of the coaching staff who has been a part of this journey. You all helped me grow not only in my craft, but also as a man. Thank you to Coach Briggs for giving me this opportunity and allowing me to pursue an education while playing the sport I love.”
Boyd earned Honorable Mention on the NAIA All-America Basketball Team this past season after helping lead Georgetown to a Mid-South Conference Tournament championship.
He was named the 2022 Mid-South Conference Outstanding Player of the Tournament, averaging 19.7 points and five assists in three games in the tourney.
Boyd started all 33 games for the Tigers this past season and led the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game. He ranked sixth in the Mid-South Conference in scoring and was second on Georgetown with 4.9 rebounds a game.
Georgetown was 25-8 this past season.
Boyd was an All-MSC First Team selection each of the past two seasons and was named Conference Freshman of the Year in 2021.
Boyd, who redshirted his first season at Georgetown, scored 945 points in two seasons of action while grabbing 256 rebounds, dishing out 149 assists and recording 55 steals.
He started 55 of the 57 games in which he appeared.
Georgetown went 41-16 the past two seasons.
Boyd is a 2019 Caldwell County grad.
He finished his high school career fourth on Caldwell’s career scoring list with 1,911 points. He averaged 24.0 points a game as a senior. Boyd is also fifth on Caldwell’s all-time rebounding list with 628 boards.
Boyd did not announce where his next college stop will be.
