Miscues Trip Hoptown Girls in 6-4 Loss at Warren Central

Despite outhitting hosts Warren Central 6-2 on Friday, the Hopkinsville softball team committed five errors on the way to a 6-4 loss to the Lady Dragons.

The Lady Tigers drop their fifth straight to slip to 2-7 overall, with a visit from Dawson Springs scheduled for Monday.

Hopkinsville loaded the bases in the top of the 1st and took an early 2-0 lead after Daijha Owen drove in a run.  However, Warren Central answered with a five-run 2nd, taking advantage of three Lady Tiger errors and an RBI single by Ariana Pineda.

Hoptown’s Hannah Thorson took over in the circle in the 3rd, allowing a single hit and an unearned run with four walks and five strikeouts the rest of the way.

The Lady Tigers pulled a pair of runs back in the top of the 3rd on an RBI single by Owen and a run-scoring triple from Shaniyah Straight.  However, Hopkinsville couldn’t claw all the way back, going scoreless over the final four frames.

Straight took the loss, allowing five unearned runs on a hit with a walk over two innings.

Owen had two hits and drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers.

Natalie Naftel went the distance in the circle for Warren Central, yielding four runs on six hits with a pair of walks and nine strikeouts.
