A brutal end for Muhlenberg County to their game at Todd County Central Friday night. A wild pitch and two errors against the Mustangs led to the Rebels walking off a 2-1 win in Elkton.

With the game tied at 1-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, Jase Paul Hampton led off the inning by reaching base on a Mustang error. Courtesy runner for Hampton, George Cumbee was then sacrificed down to 2nd base.

Cumbee advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Grady Reding then hit a ground ball to second, which was mishandled by Muhlenberg County, allowing Cumbee to score and the Rebels to walk off with the hard-fought 2-1 win.

The pitchers owned the night for both teams. For the Rebels, Preston Rager got the start and went 4 1/3 innings. He gave up one run on four hits, striking out seven while walking four.

Jase Paul Hampton was stellar in relief. Hampton pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the Rebels, giving up no runs on no hits, striking out six and walking none.

Muhlenberg County’s Jake Allen went the distance, giving up two runs, only one of them earned, on just two hits, striking out nine and walking three.

Todd Central’s two hits came off the bats of Jacob Brandon and Gavyn Nolan.

The Rebels now move to 9-5 with the win. They are set to be back in action Saturday in the Kelly Russell Classic.
