Former Caldwell County Tiger Shane Burns is 3-0 at Murray State this season after pitching the Racers past Tennessee Martin 5-3 on Thursday in Murray.
Burns got the start and went seven strong innings, allowing one unearned run on just three base hits. The left-hander struck out six and walked just one in a 93-pitch performance.
The outing was the longest for a Murray State pitcher on the season and brings Burns to 26 innings pitched this year.
The Racers scored all five of their runs in the fifth to erase a 1-0 deficit.
Burns has an ERA of 3.46 in nine appearances this season.
He is Caldwell’s all-time winningest pitcher. Burns posted a 31-8 mark on the mound for the Tigers and helped Caldwell capture 2nd Region championships in 2016 and 2017.
Murray State is now 16-16 overall and 2-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The two schools will play again Friday and Saturday in Murray.
