
Saturday was a good day for the Caldwell County Tiger track team.
Not only did the Tigers place second overall out of nine teams at the Fast Times meet at Mayfield High School, but the squad set two school records as well.
Elijah Shaheen won the long jump competition with a school-record leap of 20 feet, 1 and 1/4 inches.
The 4×800-meter relay team of Blake Lancaster, Filippo Taccola, Timothy Nichols and Gabriel Schirmer placed third in a time of 10:08.93 seconds, which was a school record.
In other action, Ethan Weatherspoon was second in the 200-meter dash in 23.19 seconds. Riley was fifth in that event in 24.18.
Joyner finished second in the triple jump at 38 feet, 7 inches.
Weatherspoon was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.36 seconds. Shaheen was eighth in that event in 11.81.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Isaiah McGowan, Isaiah Joyner, Giovantie Riley and Weatherspoon was second in 1:35.86.
The 4×100 relay squad of Shaheen, Riley, Joyner and Weatherspoon was third in 46.38 seconds.
Schirmer placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:16.10.
Cooper Mobley was third in the shot put with a distance of 40 feet, 2 inches.
The 4×400 relay team of Giovanie Riley, Austin French, Schirmer and Nichols placed fourth in 4:14.70.
Joyner was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.94 seconds while Max Heaton was seventh in 57.17.
Giovantie Riley was fourth in the long jump at 19 feet, 5 inches.
Shaheen was fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches.
Nichols was seventh in the 1,600-meter run in 5:34.13.
Taccola was eighth in the 400-meter run in 1:00.34.
Calloway County took the team competition with 122 points while Caldwell was second with 95, just ahead of Marshall County’s 93.
Mayfield was fourth with 91.5 points, followed by Murray with 82 and Crittenden County with 65.
Graves County was next with 53.5, Dyer County had 26 and Ballard Memorial recorded 14 points.
Caldwell’s tracksters have two meets coming up next week — at Hopkins County Central on Thursday and at Marshall County on Friday.
