Seven innings turned out to not be quite enough Monday night between the two teams expected to provide the biggest challenge to Henderson County in 2nd Region softball this season. Madisonville-North Hopkins overcame a late 2-1 deficit and then scored the winning run in walk-off fashion to take a 3-2 eight-inning win over the Christian County Lady Colonels in Madisonville.

The game was a tight contest from the very beginning. The Lady Colonels got on the board in the top of the first inning. Pickle Winkler singled, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and then scored on a sacrifice bunt to give Christian County a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Maroons came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Jaycee Noffsinger reached base with a one-out double. She would score not long after on a single from Chloe Young to even the game at 1-1.

The game stayed even until the top of the fifth. Pickle Winkler connected for a one-out double and then scored on a Madisonville error on a Riley Hancock fly ball to put Christian County back in front at 2-1.

The Lady Maroons came fighting back in the bottom of the sixth. Again, it was Jaycee Noffsinger that got things started, this time with a leadoff single. Brenna Sherman hit a ground ball forcing out Noffsinger at 2nd base. Sherman would then cross the plate when Amber Osborne came up with a huge two-out single to tie the game at 2-2, setting the stage for the 8th inning excitement.

In the top of the 8th, Avery Adcock was placed on second to start the inning. She would reach third base with one out, but the Lady Colonels were unable to push her across the plate.

In the bottom of the inning, Zoe Davis was placed on second base to start the inning. And, as fate would have it on this Monday night, Jaycee Noffsinger smashed a double to start and end the inning, giving the Lady Maroons the 3-2 win.

Pickle Winkler led Christian County, going 3-4 with a double, and scoring both Christian County runs. LaiLai McGregor had the only other hit for the Lady Colonels.

Freshman Jaycee Noffsinger had a big night for the Lady Maroons, going 3-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored.

Riley Hancock went the distance for Christian County, giving up seven hits, striking out three and walking one.

Mackenzie Stoltz pitched the full game for Madisonville, giving up four hits, striking out 11 and walking one.

The Lady Colonels drop to 11-5 with the loss. They are set to be on the road Tuesday night at Calloway County.
