Trigg County Finishes Strong to Take Down Hopkinsville

The Trigg County Lady Wildcats got their bats revved up Tuesday evening, scoring in six of the seven innings on their way to a 16-7 road win over the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers. The Lady Wildcats trailed 6-5 going into the top of the 5th inning but outscored the Lady Tigers 11-1 over the final three innings to pick up the win.

Trigg County hit the scoring column in their first at-bat. The first three hitters reached base on a double, a dropped third strike, and a single, setting up a two-run inning.

Hopkinsville came right back in the bottom of the inning and tied it up when Shaniyah Straight blasted a two-run homer to left field.

Brynlee Smock put Trigg County back in front in the top of the third with an RBI single, making it a 3-2 game.

Again, Hopkinsville responded in the bottom of the inning. A two-run double from Hannah Thorson and an RBI from Faith Dansbury on a fielder’s choice gave Hoptown a 5-3 lead.

Trigg County took advantage of four walks and a dropped third strike to score a couple of runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. Hopkinsville got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning when Jakayla Grubbs hit a shot over the left-field fence putting the Lady Tigers back up 6-5.

From there, it was all Trigg County. The Lady Wildcats scored ten straight runs over the top of the 5th and the top of the 6th to take a 15-6 lead and firmly grasp control of the game. Hopkinsville pitching struggles contributed to the rally as Lady Tiger pitchers were charged with two walks and five hit batters. Hopkinsville also had two errors over that same span.

MaKenna Hendricks had a big game for the Lady Wildcats, going 3-5 with a double, 4 RBIs, and four runs scored. Maddie Smith and Brynlee Smock each had a hit and two RBIs. Rylee Hendricks was 2-6 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Chandlar Wilson had a big pinch-hit three-run homer for Trigg County.

Jakayla Grubbs just missed hitting for the cycle for the Lady Tigers. She was 3-4 with a double, a triple, a home run, and an RBI. Hannah Thorson was 2-4 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Shaniyah Straight finished 1-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs.

Avery Wade went the distance in the circle for Trigg County to pick up the win. She gave up seven runs, on seven hits, in seven innings, and struck out seven.
