
Heritage Christian made the journey to Union County Saturday and dropped a pair of games. The Warriors dropped a 12-8 decision to Whitesville Trinity in their opening game of the day and then fell to host Union County 6-1 in their final game of the trip.
Against Whitesville Trinity, HCA fell behind 9-3 and could never quite get their footing. Trinity scored in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Warriors scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning, all on bases-loaded walks, to go up 3-1.
The Raiders responded in the top of the 2nd with the first five batters all reaching base, as they went on to score six runs and take a 7-3 lead. An error, a passed ball, and a walk led to two more runs for Trinity in the third as the lead grew to 9-3.
Trinity turned two Warrior errors and a walk into two more runs in the top of the sixth to go up 11-3. HCA scored on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 11-4.
The Raiders added a run in the top of the seventh to make it 12-4. Whitesville Trinity pitching struggles nearly let the Warriors back in the game as HCA scored four times in the bottom of the seventh, three of them on bases-loaded walks.
HCA scored their 8 runs on just six hits. J.J. Thompson was 2-3 with a couple of runs scored. Heritage was the beneficiary of 14 walks from Trinity pitching. Warrior pitchers had struggles of their own, giving up 11 walks and hitting two batters.
Against Union County, the Braves scored all of their runs in the first two innings as they picked up the win over the Warriors 6-1.
J.J. Thompson led off the game with a single, advanced on an error, and then scored on a single from Tra Fowler as HCA took an early 1-0 lead.
Union County came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 2-1. The Braves took advantage of two walks and a hit batter to score their runs.
Those same pitching struggles for HCA popped up again in the bottom of the second. The Warriors gave up two hit batters and five walks, as the Braves extended their lead to 6-1.
From their Union County pitchers Korben Lucas and Coltin Capps shut the Warriors down and the Braves idled on out to the five-run win.
Five different Warriors had a hit in the game. J.J. Thompson, Walker Ashby, Carter Glover, Weston Powell, and Tra Fowler had one hit each.
J.J. Thompson gave HCA 4 2/3 solid innings in relief, giving up no runs on just one hit, while striking out 8 and walking none.
