The Henderson County Colonels made it seven straight wins Saturday. The Colonels scored at least two runs in every inning as they picked up a 20-7 road win at University Heights Academy.
After starting the season 3-7, Henderson is now at 10-7 on the year. The last loss for the Colonels was April 7 to St. Xavier in the Warren County Invitational.
The Colonels used a dropped third strike, a walk, a hit batter, and a steal to score the first two runs in the game. Henderson then parlayed two hits and a UHA error in the second to three more, giving the Colonels a 5-0 lead.
After a walk and a hit batter started the top of the third, Henderson’s bats got things cranked up. The Colonels ripped off five hits in six at-bats to move the lead out to 11-0. After a single and back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth, the lead had ballooned to 14-0.
At that point, Henderson let the reserves take over at most positions, and the Blazers took full advantage, scoring six runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 14-6. John Dearmond had a two-run single during the rally. Nic Luckey connected for an RBI triple. Ian Tyler and Jaiden Miles also drove in runs during the inning.
The hopes for a big Blazer comeback were quickly dashed in the top of the fifth. The Colonels pounded out seven hits to drive across six runs as Henderson pushed the lead out to 20-6.
UHA would convert a Henderson error in the bottom half of the inning to add another run, but there would be no big inning this time as Henderson County closed out the 13 run win.
John Dearmond finished the game 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jaiden Miles was 1-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Nic Luckey went 1-2 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.
The Blazers were their own worst enemy at times Saturday. UHA was charged with five errors in the contest.
UHA falls to 8-10 with the loss. The Blazers travel to Fort Campbell Wednesday for a district doubleheader.
