It was a tough weekend for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers as they spent some time “south of the border.” Hopkinsville traveled to Clarksville to take part in the annual Queen City Classic and dropped a set of four games, two on Friday night and two during the day Saturday.
Friday night, the Lady Tigers dropped a 10-2 decision to Montgomery Center and lost 8-2 to the Northwest Lady Vikings.
In the loss to Montgomery Central, the Lady Indians took full advantage of eight Hopkinsville errors in picking up the win. Montgomery Central scored four in the first, five in the second, and one more in the third in the 3-inning win.
Hoptown scored their two runs on three hits. Kaitlyn Kaetzel and Hannah Thorson each had a hit for the Lady Tigers. Thorson and Daijha Owen were each credited with an RBI.
The game with Clarksville Northwest saw the Lady Vikings score six runs in the top of the first and never look back on their way to the 8-2 win. Northwest scored the eight runs on just four hits as the Lady Tigers were charged with four errors in the game.
The Lady Tigers scored their two runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to back-to-back errors from the Lady Vikings. Jakayla Grubbs led Hoptown, going 2-3 with a run scored. Daijha Owen, Taylor Joachim, and Faith Dansbury also had a hit each for Hopkinsville. Owen and Shaniyah Straight had an RBI each.
Saturday, the Lady Tigers fell 12-1 to Sycamore and 8-5 to Clarksville Northeast.
In the game against Sycamore, the Lady Tigers were even with the Lady War Eagles at 1-1 going into the top of the third. Sycamore would then erupt for 11 runs over the next two innings to claim the win. Sycamore scored three runs in the third and then hung eight more on the board in the top of the fourth.
The Lady Tigers were held without a hit over the four innings of the game. Hoptown scored their run in the bottom of the first when Jakayla Grubbs reached base on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and then scored on a wild pitch.
In Saturday’s game against Northeast, the Lady Eagles came from behind with a six run bottom of the fourth inning to claim the 8-5 win.
After Northeast had taken a 2-0 lead with a run in the first and a run in the second, Hopkinsville had gotten to the lead by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Eagles were very “cooperative” that inning, giving up two errors and a hit batter. Clarksville Northeast would be charged with six miscues in the contest.
The Lady Vikings did not stay behind long, plating six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take control of the game right back. Northeast was the beneficiary of four walks and four hit batters.
Hoptown would score a pair of runs in the top of the 5th but could get no closer.
Jakayla Grubbs, Faith Dansbury, Kaitlyn Kaetzel, and Keniya Manson had one hit each for Hopkinsville in the game.
