Chick-fil-A ‘Triple A’ – Lyon County’s Jackson Shoulders

The immediate goal for Lyon County High School senior Jackson Shoulders is chasing a championship in the state All A Classic baseball tournament this weekend in Richmond.

Looking more long-term, Shoulders plans to pursue an Engineering degree that will begin at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.

Shoulders will play baseball at KWC, which has a three-year program that will earn him a bachelors degree in Engineering. He then plans to transfer to an accredited Engineering program to attain his fully licensed Engineering degree.

Jackson Shoulders averaged a double-double last season.

When he’s not playing baseball or basketball — Shoulders helped the Lyons not only win their first 2nd Region hoops championship in 71 years but also win a game at the state basketball tournament last month — Shoulders is involved in numerous clubs at Lyon County.

That list includes Technology Student Association, Future Farmers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, Pep Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Young Republicans.

Shoulders has also worked each summer since the sixth grade and has participated in a work-based learning program through Lyon County High School.

Shoulders volunteered his time and efforts following the Dec. 10 tornado that hit Lyon County, helping clear roadways and clean up debris.

On the hardwood this past season, Shoulders averaged a double-double — 19.5 points and 10.4 rebounds — to help the Lyons set a school record for wins while going 27-9.

On the diamond, Shoulders entered play this week with a .375 batting average. He has four home runs and 14 runs batted in this season for the 15-3 Lyons. On the mound, Shoulders is 4-1 with a save and an earned run average of 1.09.

Shoulders and the Lyons will play Saturday in the state All A Classic at Eastern Kentucky University. Lyon will face Hazard in a quarterfinal round game on Saturday. The tournament semifinals and championship game are set for Sunday.

YSE spoke with Shoulders following games against Paducah St. Mary and Christian County on Saturday. Shoulders was the winning pitcher and hit a home run against St. Mary — a game that earned Lyon its berth in the All A state tourney.
