
Derrin Boyd, a 2019 Caldwell County High School graduate, will play NCAA Div. I college basketball.
Boyd announced on social media on Tuesday that he is transferring to Lipscomb University in Nashville.
Boyd spent the past three years at NAIA Georgetown College. After redshirting his first season, Boyd was an All-Mid South Conference First Team selection each of the past two years.
He still has three years of eligibility remaining.
Boyd earned Honorable Mention on the NAIA All-America Basketball Team this past season after helping lead Georgetown to a Mid-South Conference Tournament championship.
He was named the 2022 Mid-South Conference Outstanding Player of the Tournament, averaging 19.7 points and five assists in three games in the tourney.
Boyd started all 33 games for the Tigers this past season and led the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game. He ranked sixth in the Mid-South Conference in scoring and was also second on Georgetown with 4.9 rebounds a game.
Boyd was named Conference Freshman of the Year in 2021.
He scored 945 points in two seasons of action at Georgetown while grabbing 256 rebounds, dishing out 149 assists and recording 55 steals.
He started 55 of the 57 games in which he appeared.
Georgetown went 41-16 the past two seasons.
At Caldwell, Boyd finished fourth on the Tigers’ career scoring list with 1,911 points. He averaged 24.0 points a game as a senior. Boyd is also fifth on Caldwell’s all-time rebounding list with 628 boards.
Boyd will be the second former Tiger to play for the Lipscomb Bisons.
Eli Pepper was a four-year starter at Lipscomb from 2015-19.
He left the school as its all-time leader in rebounds at the NCAA Div. I level with 1,016 boards.
Pepper scored over 900 career points while at Lipscomb.
He earned three All-Academic Team selections and helped guide the Bisons to the 2018 ASUN Championship and 2018-19 ASUN Regular Season title.
Lipscomb, which transitioned to the NCAA Div. I level in the 1990s, is a member of the ASUN Conference.
Boyd announced two weeks ago that he would be transferring from Georgetown.
