
The Lyon County Lady Lyons got the defense of their All-A state softball championship off to a positive start Saturday with a strong pitching performance in the circle. Lilly Perry gave up just one run as the Lady Lyons beat Louisville Holy Cross for the second straight year in pool play with a 4-1 win at Jack Fisher Park.
Perry continually found a way to keep the Lady Cougars from getting a big inning started. She would finish the game giving up just six hits while striking out seven and walking three.
The Lady Lyons picked up a run in the first, one on the third, one in the fourth, and one more in the fifth. There were a couple of innings where the Lady Lyons could have extended the lead even more but just could not get one more big hit to generate a big inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Lyons had two runners thrown out at the plate.
Lyon County took the early 1-0 lead when Lilly Perry connected on an RBI single in the bottom of the first.
After a pair of walks, Holy Cross got a sac fly to even things up at 1-1 in the top of the third.
Lyon County got the run right back on a sac fly from Lilly Perry in the bottom half of the inning to put the Lady Lyons back up 2-1. Lauren Davis drove in a run with a single in the fourth to push the lead out to 3-1.
Calista Collins then capped off the scoring for the game with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the 5th to push the lead out to 4-1.
Lilly Perry then closed the door over the final two innings to secure the win for the Lady Lyons.
Holy Cross had problems in the field being charged with four errors in the game.
Calista Collins ended up 3-3 with a home run, an RBI, and 3 runs scored. Hadlie Butler finished 2-3. Lilly Perry went 1-3 with an RBI.
